Sheriff’s Offices
Citrus County Sheriff’s Office You Are Not AloneIf you suspect child abuse or neglect—or are a young person suffering from maltreatment—it can take a great deal of courage to come forward. But know that there are people to help you, no matter what the situation.
If You Are Abused
Please tell someone! You do not deserve to be abused or neglected, and it’s not your fault.
If you think you are in immediate danger, please call 911—from the safety of a friend or neighbor’s home if possible. Otherwise, you can call the state’s Abuse Hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE (1-800-962-2873), contact your local sheriff’s office or speak to a guidance counselor or a resource officer at school.
If You Suspect Abuse
Do not let your fears go unreported. Taking action now could save a child’s life. You can easily alert the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) by submitting a report online. A thorough investigation will then be completed. If you do not have complete information (e.g., the child’s address), would like to remain anonymous or desire to speak to a representative, you can call DCF’s Abuse Hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE (1-800-962-2873). You can also contact your local sheriff’s office for assistance. In an emergency situation, always call 911 first, then dial the Abuse Hotline to report the incident with DCF. |
